About

Althea DeBrule

Knit to Donate to Charity is all about knitting stitches to make clothing and other items for charitable donations. Giving hand made knitted gifts to others is a passion of mine. I love sowing into the hearts and lives of the people I meet. Beautiful knitting yarns and accessories and creative challenging knitting patterns help me to express my love for those in need. Donating to charity is a shared experience that blesses not only the receiver, but the giver as well. As I knit to donate to charity, I pray for the unknown person who will use or wear what I am making. This never fails to warm my heart and lift my soul.

On this site you will find everything you need to know to knit to donate to charity—from the basic essentials of donating to charity to a list of charitable organizations that seek out donated knitted items to give to sick children, the homeless, premature babies and others in need; to how to work on your own or with other knitters to reach those in need…and even more.

You’ll get links to FREE knitting patterns and downloads for knitted instructions to make your favorite knitted items like preemie caps, prayer shawls, afghans, dish cloths, helmet liners, etc., and for those of you who are new to knitting, basic instructions and primers on learning to knit, stitch selection and knitting tutorials will guide and de-stress your giving efforts.

You’ll be encouraged to set aside a “tithe” of your time to knit to donate to charity either by knitting alone while listening to uplifting music or as part of a knitting guild or group community service effort. No matter which way you choose to knit to donate to charity, the rewards will be greater than just the mere satisfaction of completing a project or two.

The inspiration for this blog was a group of senior citizens who mentored and shepherded me in the church I used to attend. After relocating, I wanted to honor them with something from my heart; so I made prayer shawls for the women and throws/afghans for the men. Their delight at receiving the gifts continues to energize me, and has inspired me to find other groups in my new location for whom I can knit similar items.

If you love to knit, consider joining me as part of an online crusade to knit to donate to charity. Feel free to contact me if you need additional information or just need help in getting started.
